Karhu, Finnish word for bear, is a running shoe brand founded in the Baltic country in 1916. Soon the brand grows up to be the technical sponsor of the Finnish Olympic athletes, there are Karhu for example at the feet of legendary athletes like the marathon runner Emil Zatopek and Paavo Nurmi,who won nine Olympic gold medals in just eight years. In the 50s Karhu sold the trademark of his now famous three stripes to adidas. The price? Two bottles of whiskey and the equivalent of 1,600 Euros.
